THE MAJOR CHALLENGE FOR THE GRAPHENE INDUSTRY IS SCALABILITY:

THE CAPABILITY OF PRODUCING LARGE VOLUME AT LOW COST

UNDERSTANDING OUR TECHNOLOGY

what is graphene?

Discovered at the University of Manchester in 2004, graphene is an allotrope of carbon. At its simplest form, graphene is the lightest, strongest, thinnest, best heat-and-electricity-conducting material discovered to date. The uniqueness of this material is due to its atomic structure – a single layer of carbon atoms arranged in a hexagonal lattice. As such, graphene was awarded the Nobel Prize in 2010. However, graphene does not naturally form. With our proprietary production technology, we produce graphene by exfoliating natural flake graphite with multiple carbon layers to produce a graphene powder that consists predominately of 6-10 atomic layers. Graphene has the ability to enhance certain properties within polymers that are unique to other commercially available carbon-based materials.

OUR PROVEN DIFFERENCE

NanoXplore’s patented mechanochemical (liquid exfoliation) production process is low cost, large volume, and highly scalable. We take natural forming graphite through an exfoliation process that is environmentally friendly and sustainable. We can produce 4,000-metric tons of graphene powder per year in an automated facility that is designed with a modular structure. According to IDTechEx*, this is the largest graphene production facility in the world.

*IDTechEx Research, Dr. Richard Collins, “Is the Tipping Point for Graphene Commercialisation Approaching?

Producing graphene is half the battle. At NanoXplore, we are able to transfer the unique properties of graphene as an additive within plastic and composite products through our Carbon Technology and Composite business groups. We hold intellectual property and the know-how to mix various product matrices at a similar cost to that of other commercially available additives. This allows for a more enhanced product development process and a better performing cost-effective product.
